ad free blog

By using this icon on my website I am stating…

1. That I am opposed to the use of corporate advertising on blogs.

2. That I feel the use of corporate advertising on blogs devalues the medium.

3. That I do not accept money in return for advertising space on my blog.

Sounds like a plan to me.

(Disclaimer: Since my cooking involves the use of a smoke alarm as my oven timer, I should this recipe came to me from New Zealand whose specialty tends to trhe culinary – visit her at Annie’s Pantry.)

    Import worked

The entries from July were done online at blogger.com. They seem to be fine and are editable in this interface. (I haven’t kept that up at all.)

    Looking over version 1.5.2

Stumbling over to the Word Press 1.5.2 Documentation and Forums, I was astounded at how good everything looked. Not to say it wasn’t good before but it was bland, sort of and geeky functional. Therein lies the trouble of making something so good folks don’t look to the help (or messages) often enough to see how cool the latest developments are.

I was blown away by the design (but simple shiny things have been known to fascinate me.) Just when I thought I had a handle on WordPress this comes out and looks like I have more to learn. The initial interface appears similar yet with some fantastic style, but I can already see this goes way beyond a new skin. The editor itself seems more friendly, incorporating rich text elements – familiar from many places for the newbie; but I’m noticing the tags being tracked similar to some very advanced WYSIWYG editors – this will certainly interest the novice/intermediate.

Hosting it is new, too, I think. Though I have several installations of WP up and working, I chose this to get a feel and wet my feet first. The Upgrade sounds more complicated than I would have guessed and I would like to save much of what I’ve done. So this seemed a more conservative way to wet my feet, before I took the plunge.

    Being a bad example

    Let me count the ways…

No, there are too many! My friends and un-indicted co-conspirators constantly chide me for spreading myself too thin (among other things.) Whenever someone begins an online project, there is a burst of enthusiasm and all too often it is followed by frustration and ends in abandoned half started things.

My several blogs appear that way, as does much of my website (or sites.) I prefer to think they are an ongoing process. It helps my mental outlook. The Learning Center will be exploring shopping and marketing online.

I waited to formally announce the Café Press shop because I asked Kimmy to help anyone who would want to put their own pictures on merchandise with the sizing and image resolution. My shop there does not do this. In the coming month, I will be providing some guidance for the process. As always I learn by doing as much as by reading (or if you prefer, I fall into all the holes so I can learn the ways out to help others.) I think a grandkid’s picture on a T-shirt or bib would make a nice gift to show your kids how computer savvy you’ve become.
